St. Francis-in-the-Wood has just celebrated its 90th birthday.  We were told last year the roof of the church will have to be replaced before we reach 100.  So in 2018 we set out to raise $50,000 per year for 5 years to have at least some funds available when the time comes.  We held a parish dinner in 2018 which raised $25,000;  18 parishioners committed to donating at least $1,000/year for the next 5 years;  and dozens of other church members have given, too.  We set up a fund at the West Vancouver Community Foundation so the monies raised would be kept separate from church funds.  All donations, of course, qualify for tax credits. We reached our first year target of $50,000 in 2018.  Two anonymous donors then agreed to donate $10,000 and $25,000 respectively – and to continue doing so every year if we make this target going forward.  We’d like to qualify again for these “matching” funds so we’ve already started our 2019 fundraising.  To date we’ve raised or have commitments for about $20,000.  But we need more. Because it’s the oldest church building in West Vancouver (and one of the prettiest) and has been the site of many community and family events for people who aren’t parishioners, we’ve decided to look for donors from beyond the parish itself.  If you would like to contribute please contact the Church office at 604.922.5351.  If you wish to donate in another way or have any questions about this fundraising initiative, please contact John Moonen at 604.921.6433 or johnmoonen@telus.net.
