The Roofing work has begun dealing with necesssary structural repairs as required, and the replacement of new shingles that will last for many years to come. It has been tough on several days because of the recent rain. There is much more to do but hopefully sunnier days to come will make the work easier for the contractors. Scrolling through the photographs above will give you a sense of the scale of the work in hand.
The old wooden Cross, that has been a focal point of the Church building for many years, needed replacing too. George Marton masterminded the operations of lowering the old cross and raising the new one after he built it. We want to thank you, George. It was quite the adventure!
The roof fundraising effort is also continuing, with monies coming in to both the West Vancouver Community Foundation Fund and the parish. Our anonymous matching donors have been so impressed with the response that they've generously raised their commitment to match all 2020 donations from the original $75,000 to $100,000. We are over half-way to this goal, with 40 families/individuals having already donated an average of over $1,200 each.
If you haven't yet contributed please do so now. Cheques can be mailed to the parish office payable to "St. Francis-in-the-Wood" with "Roof & Major Repairs Fund" in the memo line. Or they can be mailed to the Foundation payable to "West Vancouver Community Foundation" with "St. Francis Roof & Major Repairs Fund" in the memo line. Either way your charitable tax receipt will be for the same amount. And either way it will be matched 100%! The foundation is at 775 - 15th Street, West Vancouver V7T 2S9; the parish address is 4773 South Piccadilly Road V7W 1J8.
There are other ways you can donate, too, e.g. with company shares instead of cash or by sending an e-transfer or donating online. Please contact our roof fundraising chair John Moonen at (604) 921-6433 or johnmoonen@telus.net if you have any questions.
