St. Francis recently celebrated a joyful and vibrant two-week exploration of Nowruz, the Persian New Year, bringing together members of the community in a celebration of renewal, hope, and cultural sharing. This special event, which marks the return of spring, was lovingly coordinated by parishioners Farhad, Roya, Elena, Linda, Christine, and their dedicated team.

One of the highlights of this festive time was a captivating performance of traditional Persian music by our music director Karen, during worship on March 30th. Her melodies and accompanying explanations, chosen by Farhad and Roya, resonated beautifully with scripture and the themes of the sermons and worship, creating an atmosphere of connection and joy to the deeper traditions of the season for all those attending.

Central to the celebrations was the creation of a stunning Haft-Seen table, carefully prepared by Roya, Farhad, Elena, Linda, Christine, and the team. This symbolic arrangement, showcasing items that signify rebirth, health, and prosperity for the coming year, drew much admiration and curiosity from parishioners of all ages.

Adding to the delight, the parish community was invited to experience the flavors and hospitality of Persian culture through delicious traditional foods. Guided thoughtfully by Roya and Farhad, parishioners contributed by cooking and sourcing an array of authentic dishes, sharing recipes, and learning from one another. We truly ate like kings together!

"It was deeply meaningful to see our community come together to celebrate Nowruz," shared the Rector Rev. Alex Wilson. " In a time of such division, isolation, and fear, the opportunity of this amazing festival to create bridges of hope and joy across cultures was a tangible experience of the transformative ministry of Jesus, which tore down walls that divide us, alive in the world."

While the formal celebration of Nowruz is over for another year, it has left the parish with new memories, new joys, new experiences of hope and possibility, as the world returns to life with the buds of spring. Despite the lenten journey we are on, celebrating this new tradition was so important for us. Many are already planning for next year's party!
