“They shall be like a tree planted by water”
Jeremiah 17:8
Friends,
This week, we’ve got two very different things happening—Valentine’s Day and our pre-Vestry meeting on finances. One is all about love, and the other… well, the other might feel like the opposite. But stick with me—there’s actually a connection.
We usually think of Valentine’s Day as chocolates, flowers, and heart-shaped everything. But the real St. Valentine wasn’t about romance—he was a martyr. He lived in a time when following Jesus was dangerous, and he stayed faithful, even when it cost him everything. His love wasn’t just a feeling; it was a choice, a trust, a deep rooting in something bigger than himself.
So… what does this have to do with our Vestry meeting? Well, talking about money can be stressful. It’s easy to slip into worry—do we have enough? How will we make things work? But those questions aren’t just about numbers; they’re about trust. Are we operating out of fear or faith? Are we grasping at control, or are we rooting ourselves in God’s provision, a provision that has brought us this far already?
This Valentine’s Day, a lot of people will be talking about love. But real love—the kind Valentine lived, the kind Jesus calls us to—isn’t just about good feelings. It’s about where we put our trust. About being willing to risk, to stay faithful, to believe that even in uncertainty, God is still holding us.
Come Sunday to see how the story ends…
