Following on from the series before the summer break exploring Tom Harpur’s The Pagan Christ, our rector Angus Stuart will be hosting another “Theological Hot-Tub” series on Monday evenings this fall exploring Richard Rohr’s Falling Upward: A Spirituality for the Two Halves of Life.

Richard Rohr is one of the pre-eminent Christian voices speaking today in matters of spirituality and theology.  In this Hot-Tub series, we will be intentionally relating matters of theology to practical spirituality.  Rohr, a Franciscan priest in New Mexico, founded the Center for Action and Contemplation in Albuquerque in 1986 where he currently serves as Founding Director.  He is the author of more than twenty books, an internationally known speaker, and a regular contributor to Sojourners and Tikkun magazines as well as the Center for Action and Contemplation’s quarterly journal, Radical Grace.

Here’s what Amazon has to say about Falling Upward:

In Falling Upward, Fr. Richard Rohr seeks to help readers understand the tasks of the two halves of life and to show them that those who have fallen, failed, or "gone down" are the only ones who understand "up." Most of us tend to think of the second half of life as largely about getting old, dealing with health issues, and letting go of life, but the whole thesis of this book is exactly the opposite. What looks like falling down can largely be experienced as "falling upward." In fact, it is not a loss but somehow actually a gain, as we have all seen with elders who have come to their fullness.

This important book explores the counterintuitive message that we grow spiritually much more by doing wrong than by doing right—a fresh way of thinking about spirituality that grows throughout life.

The Rector’s Theological Hot-Tub will take place on the following Monday evenings 7:30-9:00pm (approx.):

September 22 and 29; [NOT October 6 or 13]; October 20 and 27; November 3, 10, 17 and 24.

Places limited to 12 participants.
